Dumfries and Galloway is a very attractive place to live but it maybe could be more exciting – we need to continue to work on getting events into the region and more retail outlets especially in Dumfries itself. Also we need to promote the advantages of the region to events and businesses want to come her – and we need to advertise what’s already available

I already find our region attractive and exciting (mind you I’m over 60). When you meet and talk to people from other areas, they are always enthusiastic about what the region has to offer. Beautiful scenery, lovely walks and for the more adventurous, first class mountain bike tracks such as the Seven Stanes. Add to that beaches, fishing and outdoor pursuits; I could go on but I think you’ve got the message. Many of our towns now enter Scotland in Bloom every summer and I know that Wigtown and Whithorn here in the Machars did very well in the competition this year. The tubs of flowers, the litter picking and the involvement of the community certainly make our small towns very attractive indeed. We have little industry in this part of the region and depend on tourism to provide much needed jobs. All of the things I’ve mentioned, plus the Council keeping verges cut and our parks and open spaces well maintained mean that visitors enjoy their stay and come back again.

What are you looking for? Rock concerts? Sports facilities? Cleaning things up? I’d need to know what you think are the important things.
