We could do with some more shops in the High Street and the town centre would be better if there were more poeple living in the centre again. As far as facilities are concerned the cinema is rather out of date as well as not having disabled access, that could be improved and work needs to be done on the theatre – I supported the campaign for a new theatre but I suspect it won’t happen. The Peter Pan Trust have some exciting ideas for Moat Brae which they are trying to raise money for. Its a pity that Debenams didn’t come to Dumfries but perhaps it will eventually
We need to get more shops for a start, and more variety. It will help when Iceland opens up on the old Woolworths site. Some things cannot be brought back, as long as people prefer to do their ‘big shop’ at out of town supermarkets like Tesco, so we have to think of other ways to bring more life into the centre. Some specialist shops have their outlets away from the centre, and perhaps could be persuaded to relocate in the centre. It might help if cars were allowed nearer the centre again- perhaps downhill from the fountain, but at a slow speed. People might then shop more in the centre. I’d also like to see more people living in the centre. We got some money from Scottish government for town centre regeneration. I don’t think it’s all spent-yet!
Hello, ejones. Personally, I’d like to see clean streets and no seagulls. I love shopping so a few more shops would be more than welcome. I often shop in Castle Douglas because they have a variety of independent shops offering items that are just that wee bit different. Dumfries should try to go the same way and have less chain stores.
