The hardest questions are always those which you know you can’t help someone with. A lot of the time people think councillors have more power than they actually have. In fact, we now have less power than we used to have. If, for example, you asked me if I could help you or your family get a house to rent, there’s a limit to what i could do for you. I could speak to Loreburn or DGHP and ask them to look at your circumstances but I couldn’t force them, even if I thought you were absolutely right. It’s hard to have to say to people that you can’t help them but sometimes it’s true.
