I’d like to think that everything I do helps my community. I sit on the local Area Committee and we allocate grants to help local organisations. I attend Community Council meetings and listen to the issues raised by residents so that I can help solve any problems they might have. I’m very involved with the Wigtown Festival Company and really enjoy helping out at festival time.
I always think that this is a very important part of a councillor’s work. You can help the community in the work you do in committees on the council, and also if there is something special that comes up. I’ve done a lot of work lately as chairman of the nith navigation steering group, which is trying to make the River Nith better for boats and so make it look better for everyone.
Hello mc1995. right now, I am raising the level of communication between elected members and young people, and trying to keep up with the avalanche of enquiries!
In Bridge of Dee i am working with the community council to pin down an area of land that could be used by young people. In Kbt I have been helping the Forum (community group) to shape its ideas for a possible sculpture park in the place of the bus depot building on the Harbour Square.
In Creetown, i advised the school children on how to take forward their vision of improving the playpark.
In Kbt I have been in discussions with fellow Dee councillors and planners on how we get low cost buy or rent housing into the town.
Is there anything you are particularly interested in?
