The Council subsidises some routes in Dumfries and Galloway – those which the bus companies wouldn’t run otherwise – but others are purely commercial and can charge more less what they like, so different companies charge different fares. One of my colleagues in the Scottish Parliament wanted to introduce a bill to better regulate the bus services but his bill didn’t get enough support, but hopefully if are back in power after next year’s elections we can bring it in
