I was a primary school teacher until March 2007, then I retired. Then I was asked by the SNP if I would like to stand for the council and I agreed. Then in May 2007 I was elected, so I’m now a councillor.
I started off as a scientist then I was an assistant to a Member of the European Parliament and I worked part time as a lecturer for the Open University teaching the science foundation course and second year chemistry courses. I went on working for the OU when I was a councillor at Strathclyde and South Ayrshire but gave it up when I was elected to the Scottish Parliament as that’s a full time job.
