The Scottish government has tried to keep rates down for small businesses, and that has helped, though it does not necessarily mean that a business would prefer to come to Dumfries and Galloway rather than another part odf Scotland. What our council can do is make it easier and more attractive for businesses to set up here. We can give advice on planning, so that businesses can get started quicker. We can also encourage our own local people to set up businesses. And once one or two businesses start in an area, others often follow.
