Queen of the South looked at that in a fair amount of detail a few years back as they were wondering what they might be able to do with the old Tesco site. They went to Carlisle to speak to the owners of the bowling alley there but apparently it’s only busy at the weekend, during the week it’s quiet. The company which runs the bowling alley and laser quest at Carlisle said that they wouldn’t consider investing in a similar facility in Dumfries because the population was too low for it to be viable. Sorry.

The Council doesn’t have any plans to build a bowling alley or laser quest. These types of facility are normally provided by private companies and, unless they can be convinced that such a facility would make a profit, they would not invest either.

Like Carlisle? I take your point. There are some places where this could be done, like the old Somerfield building, now owned by Morrisons. The trouble is, the council has absolutely no spare money at the moment to do this. Maybe some private firm could be persuaded to take it on. I’m on the town centre regeneration group. I could always ask.
