Some of the smaller towns and villages got grants in the past to paint the premises in the Main Street and it made such a difference but I don’t think the grants are available any more. The Council could not spend money on privately owned shops but I think our own buildings should be better maintained. We are looking at the whole Council office estate at the moment with a view to reducing the number of buildings we own and it would be helpful if a maintenance programme could be introduced so that the appearance of the remaining buildings could be improved.
