Question: Do you agree that cutting the number of policemen/staff would mean an increase in crime in our area. After all if there are less police on the beat or in the community then surely people will become aware of this and this will encourage the criminals to do what they want

    I think that will be almost inevitable, if there are fewer police officers available fewer crimes will be detected and criminals will be more inclined to take a risk on not getting court. Also reductions in civilian staff will mean that plice officers will spend more time on paperwork and less on crime prevention and detection. The community warden service is also under review, and in parts of Dumfries and Galloway they work with the police on crime prevention, anti social behaviour etc. The Chief Constable has already stated that reductions in police numbers could mean that the police aren’t able to attend more minor incidents
