Theo, the levels of crime are very low in D&G in comparison to the rest of the UK and the clear up rates are on the high side. So in a way, i would tackle our crime by ensuring that everyone understands how important their role is in reporting (small) crime, or anything suspicious to the police. Have their number on your mobile.
0845 6005701 The police do their job ‘with the consent of the people’.
Specifically, DandG police are actively working to deal with terrorism, illegal immigration, door to door selling, and drunkenness and vandalism. Also car crime.
Not sure what area you mean, theo, but the police in the region report regularly to Area Committees and consult them on initiatives that they consider necessary to cover specific areas of crime. The region has a very low level of crime and a very high detection rate.
We are keen to see less drug trafficking. which is a problem in Dumfries and Galloway as we are at a crossroads and a lot of drugs come through Stranraer port on their way to other places, and also a lot goes up and down the M74. I think that people like drug traffickers who make money out of other people’s addiction are contemptible.
Hi theo. i asked the police just that question when they launched their latest awareness campaign and got told off! It is because of our easily accessible coastline, (little boats can land people and equipment) and the entry port of Stranraer that they have assessed the need to work on this for the benefit of the whole of the UK.
