If cuts in education budgets are passed on from the UK Government to the Scottish Government they are likely to be passed on to local councils as they deliver most education services. One of the reasons I am not keen on the health service being protected from any cuts is because other services such as education will be worse affected,

Education Committee met recently and considered many areas where savings could be made. No decisions have been made as yet as the suggestions made by Councillors, staff and members of the public are being costed at the moment. If the budget is cut to the expected level, Education will have to save £5.8m in 2011/12.

The Council will get a lot of stick! But what most people think is that everything the council pays for should have cut backs. If education didn’t take any cuts the other things like police, fire, social work, leisure and sport would take even deeper cuts. In education we’ll try to cut things that are not absolutely essential- for example, the time primary school head teachers with a class get to do other things like paper work.
