hi lauren. the council hasn’t decided what cuts it’s going to make….yet.
and in fact, directly, it doesnt have much influence over the public money spent on students
but let’s consider what the council does that might affect you> It is responsible for Buses and libraries for a start.
    Do you use them?

The budget cuts are likely to affect everyone. I hope the council will manage to protect the services people receive as much as they can. Other plans such as the increase in VAT will hit people on low incomes, such as students

The budget cuts are going to be pretty unpleasant for everyone. The Council is in the middle of a budget setting process and various suggested ways of saving money are being costed but no decision has been made yet as to where savings will be made. An example could be that the higher course you want to take is unavailable in your school and your tuition will be delivered through a teleconferencing link. Luckily the Council has kept the IT infrastructure up to date in our schools.

We don’t know yet for sure. The Scottish Government was absolutely right to help with student fees, and has done incredibly well so far. But a lot depends on what the London government decides to give us in Scotland next month. It won’t be more than last year, in fact the reverse. I think students will find they are less well off, as will many other people. It might be necessary to find courses nearer home in order to keep costs down.
