I can’t do that directly as youth facilities are not provided by the Scottish Parliament. However if you and your friends have ideas about what might be provided I could perhaps help you find who could provide facilities or even how you could organise to provide them for yourselves

Sadly,I think it would be difficult to offer more facilities at the moment. As a Council we are facing a very challenging budget situation and to expand what we offer at such a time will not be easy. What we will have to do is look at ways of delivering things in a more cost effective way, perhaps with the use of volunteers. One youth organisation in the Machars managed to raise funding to employ a youth worker and her time is shared by a number of small villages. With the help of local volunteers, she is able to put on a number of things for the young.

The council itself at the moment can’t really afford to offer more facilities like the Ice Bowl and DG1, but we could try to encourage others- businesses, etc to help. What exactly do you people think is lacking? Sometimes it’s just that people can’t get to facilities because they live out in the country and the bus service is poor.
